All of these Frews are old 'classics' from Egmont/ Semic and can be discussed in detail at the Phantom Phorum...

Frew 1461 - The Curse of Carpatia: Average story with average cover art and average art from felmang. This was his first Semic/ Egmont story and he has definatly goten better after this story. I just have to say how many vampire stories can be released that are based in and or around Carpitia/ Koqania??

Frew 1462 - Diana's New Job: Another average story opps I mean classic from Egmont. IMHO why Frew has not published this sooner baffles all senses of sanity. This is actually a follow on from the UN getting bombed in the Lubanga series of 96-99 (yes thats nearly 10 years ago). Not only does it follow on from that but it is also the beginning of a new 'mini-series' of the Island of St Lucifer were the Phantom and Diana meet the characters a few more times. It is also the beginning of Diana starting her new job and partner 'Sam' whom she has a few more adventures with. So as you see its a bit stupid that Frew has not published this before.

Frew 1463 - The Reptile Queen: Yep you guessed it another boring 'classic' that will probably gather dust in a short period of time. This type of story seems to be fairly popular among Phantom writers of having some idol wrecking havoc among the jungles of Bengalla. Do people actually like the stories or do these authors just suffer from lacking original ideas??

Johnson Price Guide Volume 3: I was excited (until I opened it) about this release of a new price guide. I used to have two copies of the second volume (my personal favourite version) but I loaned one out to a contact who looked for Phantom comics in flea markets etc and I lost the other one. Click on Gurans website for more details...

Johnson the author (or person behind the price guides) is famous for dramitically bringing up the prices of Frews up 50-100% in comic stores and second hand book shops. This latest release is rubbish, the last edition was a lot better in quality (front cover and style inside). This looked like it was very unprofessional and im guessing he did not have enough money to spend on it as he spent it all on buying jacked up Phantom comics.....

New Phantom Comic: Tigers Blood Part two

The second part of the story about Tigers Blood finally came out recently from new writer Mike Bullock. This new series by the writer is one of the few NEW things coming from Moonstone at the moment. This has raised many comments both positive and negative from various phans, experts and other casual readers. If you want to read about them browse onto the Phantom Phorum, Chronicle Chamber and the Moonstone Forum.

This blog entry is about part two that follows on from part one which I recenty also blogged about.

The first thing that I must comment on is that I really dislike about only getting 22 pages of a comic and then having 8 odd pages of crap. Maybe I am too used to Egmont stories were we get 30 odd pages regularly without adverts in the Frew English translated comics

Again I do not think much of the artwork, some of it is great especially the opening few pages which were absolutely fabulous but then some of the peoples faces look a bit scratchy and funny.

Mike Bullock: I am a bit surprise about the way the second part of the story started off. To be honest I had to double think about weather I was reading the right part or a total new story. I don’t understand why in the first part we read about ‘cupid’ and in the second part we read about some magical ‘manic’, to me the ‘cupid’ just seemed a waste of time.

I really enjoyed the villain and how he was smart and had the brains to kick (no phun intended) the Phantoms butt. I like the epilogue of his girl dieing and it was interesting how some politicians do not think much of the Phantoms actions. However I personally would not like to Manuel Ortega back, I get rather tired of some action heroes battling the same villain over and over again.

The two stories seem to be too disjointed for it to actually flow nicely together as I personal think that two part-ers should be. I know some people judge a horse by one or two races but I think you should judge them over a year or two off races. So in saying that, Mike if you read this, I will judge you over a number of issues and not just one or two…

Engagement Invite

In an earlier post I commented how my lovely gorgeous girlfriend became my bride to be and that she said YES to marry me. Although it has finished it is still open with many questions and possibilities that me myself are a little disapointed about. One phan raised the possibility that the Phantom is yet finished with this foe as he may raise from the ashes like his namesake bird, the Phoenix.

Im wondering something myself and they are: How many 'lumps' did Pheonix have access to?? How did he know that the Phantom had a 'lump' and were did the Phantom get it (see part one)? If he got it from Pheonix in part two, were did Pheonix get another lump (he lost it in part one by the girl)?? How did he know how to reach the Phantom? Yes he mightve known he lived in Bengalla but that is a BIG place and he seemed to just get there without any hassle at all.

Lost In Cyberspace Part two

The first part caused a few stirs and rumblings among a few disgruntled phans. Dougy over at Chronicle Chamber releasd and wrote a very good article combatting the continual argument about the Phantom and technology.

This part I personally didnt mind, I liked the extra twist with Blaze (the woman who helped Luaga) running off and having a personal vendetta agaisnt the Professor but is she bad or good? And also does the Phantom have to go through 24 levels to get access to the Titans who are planning this big bad plan. It is an interesting development that could hopefully only get better. I also enjoy watching the Phantom having to use other weapons besides his muscles and relying on brain, tact, logic and guess work among others. Too often the Phantom just uses his muscles to solve the problem.

New Websites

Ok this week has been all over the place with starting to sort out engagement and wedding stuff and also the release of two new websites. It was a great awesome night filled with a great dinner at a very flashy romantic restaurant with a revoling floor looking over the beautiful city of Perth.

At the moment dates for the engagement party and wedding are undecided but it is a very exciting time for us both. I have been waiting for the Law of the Jungle for a month or so as my comic store kinder stuffed up my order. I also picked up the number 12 issue of the regular series that marks the start of Mike Bullocks run. He has been quite vocal with his new role with the Phantom which has been good for a change to see the Phantom in the headlines.

Ok my reviews starting with the Law of the Jungle and then the Tiger Blood Part One. My reviews can be read on the Phantom Phorum threads. Law of the Jungle (does include spoilers) and Tiger's Blood Part One.

Law of the Jungle:
The artwork looks great and intregueing but I personally dont like the style of paintology (photography, painting and drawing) as its too 'stiff' for my liking. The story which seems to be getting most of the attention from people imho is not that radical and out there as some have made it out to be. Yes its slightly more 'adult' than Egmont sometimes shows but its not that bad like some Phantom phans have cried over. The ending is what seems to have most people upset. It is led to believe that the Phantom leaves the scene for the bander natives to kill the assasian and this were the law of the jungle comes from.

EVEN if he did die, he did deserve it. I think most of us 'civilised' people forget to realise that in the Jungle and other 'uncivilised' areas the law of 'eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth' is very real and still goes on. This is a real life Jungle and not some overgrown backyard. I tend to feel that through Egmont and even Falk we are shown a fake jungle. No wild jungle like Bengalla would be tame....

Tiger's Blood Part One
OK people need to remember that this is the FIRST Phantom story Mike Bullock has written for publication. There is no doubt that this will probably be his worst or weakest as he will be trying to get used to the Phantom style. Keeping that in mind, I am impressed with his effort and this adventure. Yes it has its problems but my biggest problem would be the artwork and not the story. Devil looks like a Aussie Blue Healer (im waiting for Steve Irwin to pop out) and some of the artwork may be a little too scratchy for some peoples liking but I have definatly read worst and im looking forward to what Mike can bring out next.

You can see on this preview page yourself for what Devil looks like. I thought that reading this book may help me be aware of a few of the tricks that the media uses and so I can better prepare and guard myself from the enemy. Although it is a very good and interesting book, it did not contain and talk about what I originally brought it for.

However it shared some strategies of being a parent and worker in the media world and how to not let the lies of the media filter to our (future) kids and our own lives.

Like in my last blog entry I noted that I read a fair few articles on Net stuff to do with my business JP2 Designs. The author mentioned some good church related references which I am now a member off.

So what was the book like? Well I did enjoy the read, the two authors did have different writting styles which was a little hard to read at times. I gain knowledge about some myths that I had thought and I would say I am now a little smarter about how to deal with the lies of the devil in regard to the media.

Christian Locations on the Net

Ok lately I have been reading a book called "Sex, Lies and the Media". I have almost finished reading it and will post a review on it when finished. While reading it I found a few web links which I have started browsing and becomming a member off. For my job (JP2 Designs) I read a lot of web articles to do with the Internet. I have started to read a few Christian articles to bring a nice balance in what I am reading and viewing.

Joyful Heart Ministries is probably my most favourite at the moment which has a good blend of free and some paying bible studies as well as some good challanging articles about most things. I have just sarted a new bible study which is provided by the website on EPHESIANS which I am enjoying so far. So far from the date of this blog, I have read the Ephesians Introduction and Ephesians Lesson One. You can find more information over at this website.

I have found a few other webistes which I am a bit undecided about but are looking at and will blog about for you to judge yourself.
Crosswalk - is a place which has articles, references, enewsletters etc
BibleGateway - is a tool for reading and researching scripture online -- all in the language or translation of your choice!
BiblePlaces - features photographs and descriptions of sites in Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey and Greece with an emphasis on biblical archaeology, geography and history.

New Phantom Comic - Phoenix Part 3

Like the title suggests this is part three of a part four series. If you read my previous blog entries (part one and part two) you will learn a bit about this series written by Phantom author Claes Reithermi who is a vetern with writting Phantom stories for years. Like most things to do with the Phantom you can read the latest of these stories on the Phantom Phorum (part one, part two and part three).

So far this series has been ok. Part one was good and part two and three were ok. The thing that gets me with long part stories is that part one you get the current Phantom dealing with some mystery and then part two and three (sometimes part four) you get him spending hours digging into past Phantom chronicles and then with the last part he deals and sorts out the problem and its all sorted. What I would really like is a four or five part story were its just the current Phantom dealing with the problem. It would be nice occasionally....

University Assignment - JP2 Designs Flash Presentation version two

Back for Project One for Multimedia Studio 392 I created a flash version of my eportfolio for JP2 Designs. On top of the website we had to touch up Project One (Flash presentation) and so hear is the revised version that I have just updated.

Movie: Kokoda

I have just recently finished the latest war movie from Australia called Kokoda. This is a very important piece of Australian history for a number of reasons. This fight in PNG was the first time Australians have had to defend their own terioty. It was also the first time Australians fought without their ally Britian. Ok the yanks did help the Aussies but when you read a little about the fight, it was the Australians who were the big shakers.

As I was watching the movie I made the mistake of eating my dinner at the same time (bad move). It was a very powerful movie as it showed just how hard it was for the people on that track on both sides. I have meet people who have or do live in PNG and they all tell me that it is a amazing place with friendly lovely people (below an image of the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels carrying the wounded). The movie while focusing on the war and battles between the two nations it also showed just how beautiful the place really is.

This time and war is very adaptly portrayed by the end slogen of the movie which is engraved on memorial of the village "COURAGE - ENDURANCE - MATESHIP - SACRIFICE". This trek has been a contiunal reminder of those brave people who sacrificed their lives for the security of their country. So much so that several people and even sporting clubs (Hawthorn, Brisbane among others) have travelled and followed in the footsteps of our forefathers.

After watching the movie I have searched and read a bit more about the trek. Hear are a few links that are a must read.
http://www.kokoda.com
Movie website
Kokoda Campaign
Battle for Australia
Wikipedia on Kokoda Track Campaign

Article - Forgivness

I have quoted some scriptures for forgivness earlier on this site (http://germworks.net/Church/?p=23). This is an article from a Pastor called Dr. Ralph F. Wilson the Director of Joyful Heart Ministries. Hear is the link for the article titled " Don't Pay the Price of Counterfeit Forgiveness. It is a very good challangeing read which im sure most people would have heard and know about before BUT its always good to re-read and remember what it excatly means to forgive.

Ok the reason why I read this article and writting a blog on it. Recently I have been changing a few things in my life like my convictions of God and asking myself some challanging questions about my personal relationship with my Saviour Jesus. A lot has been due to some changes of were I serve God due to some foolish decisions on my behalf. This has caused a few words to be said and God has been dealing with me the way I handle the words and accusations that have thrown at me.

In James 4: 11-12 it talks about judging people by the law and how you should not do that as that is Gods job, not ours.
Jam 4:11 Do not say evil against one another, my brothers. He who says evil against his brother or makes himself his brother's judge, says evil against the law and is judging the law: and in judging the law you become, not a doer of the law but a judge.

Jam 4:12 There is only one judge and law-giver, even he who has the power of salvation and of destruction; but who are you to be your neighbour's judge?

This article has helped me to forgive and get a reminder off how to forgive and the power behind forgiveness. The article breaks itself into four points of forgivness. The one that spoke to me was "Forgive and Forget" and how God CHOOSE to forget our sins, he remembers them and could bring up every single sin but He CHOOSES to forget them. We need to choose to forgive our brothers sins agaisnt us.

A good scripture reference is the parable of a governor who owed millions to his king. But he forfeited the king's offer to forgive the debt by his own refusal to cancel a twenty dollar debt. As a result, he was imprisoned and tortured until he should pay the last penny. Jesus' application to his disciples is unmistakable: "So shall my heavenly Father also do to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart" (Matthew 18:35).

Centuries ago, George Herbert distilled the issue: "He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass if he would ever reach heaven; for every one has need to be forgiven."

Is the Phantom an all ages comic anymore?

Ok this blog entry is my opinion and views about the last two Phantom stories and recent stories by artist Felmang. This recent two story arch was created by current "legands" of the Phantom world, written by Phantom writer David Bishop who is a very good writer who has written classics like the 'Kate Sommerset' series etc which are some of the best current Phantom stories coming out of Egmont lately. AND Felmang is known amongst most Phantom phans all around the world as one of the best all-time Phantom artists riveling Sy Barry for his jungle landscapes.

However putting aside the legand statess I am very very VERY disapointed with this last two story arch and even more the artwork that Felmang has turned out recently. The story imho lacks a lot, im no writer (far from it) but this is definatly not Davids best and this article by Phantom-phan Dougy echos my thoughts.

OK ill stat it right now, im a Born-again Christian but im not saying im a saint but can I really ask, is Felmangs artwork really nessacary?? Im talking about every single female dripping in sexuality and big boobs. Lately Diana has been 'sexed' up by Felmang so much that im sure most phans would think that the Phantom is 'hooking up' with a new "Hooche mumma" as she resembles nothing to Diana that we saw married to the Phantom by Sy Barry. I remember her as a modest female. One of the many things I grew up to love about the Phantom was that as a kid I could read the Phantom without being saturated with sex and nudity. Ok the Phantom has not been seen having sex yet but the artwork does not leave much to the imagination.

Some examples are: In one part of the Diana Missing saga, we see the Phantom walking down the beach and a few toppless bathers with great detail. In the other parts of this saga we see Diana continually wearing scantly clothing that you would normally see ladies of the night wearing (Great role model not only to her kids but everyone else - rolled-eyes). This discussion on the Phantom Phorum is another example of Felmangs talent (or desire). I could go on and on with examples but why dont you yourself pick up a few recent Felmang stories and look for yourself.

You can view information about the the two stories on Gurans website. Circe's Island Pt.1: The Institute and Circe's Island Pt.2: The Destruction. On the Phantom Phorum you can read fellow phans views hear with Part One and Part Two. On a side note David Bishop (the writer) has blogged a little about this story hear.

Please feel free to agree or disagree with me on this blog or on the Phantom Phorum were I have started a new thread in regard to my comments.

GermWorks busy and hetic week

Boy has life been full on lately??
Not only have I been sick which has been made worse by late nights, not eating healthy and stress in my personal life. To top it all off I have been busy trying to sort out a clients website (Geraldton Signmakers). Also sorting out my MYOB system for JP2 Designs.

Another thing that has taken the toll has been the launching and developing of JP2 Designs which is coming along but like most times when stressed and not thinking clearly you get CSS problems (read about my problems).

Ive also got university asignments that are coming up and a fortnightly blog for one of the units which I will leave til late like usual (rolled-eyes). Tom for this same unit I have a group meeting and we are studying and researching how to design a portfolio website which when is founded will be posted hear.

OK coming up soon will be my review of the latest two parter Phantom series featuring shady women conning people with a touch of greek mythogoly to top it off.

Life with CSS

At the moment for JP2 Designs we are re-designing Geraldton Signmakers and we are using Div tags and trying to get it look the same as the prototype (see prototype) and I stumbled upon a problem when I tried placing the pin strip as the background. My wrapper div tag that holds it all together was not holding it altogether and so I came up with this problem (see first image). So the problem was that the ackground was not white but rather the pin strips.

I spent ages and hours trying many diffeent ways playing around with the floating divs and pulling my hair out (slmost but you get the point) and so I got so stuck that I had to swallow my pride and ask for help. This story is about a young lady from unfortunate situations who has come to believe that the Phantom is her younger brother, she is helped to find the Phantom and proceeds to explain how she is her older brother. Like any poor or gready person she sees the Phantoms 'minor' treasure room (more information: Phantoms Skull Cave) and she wants some and as an heir, the first born can she be denied?

What follows is a fast flowing story which is really enjoyable and for Australian and english readers we are introduced to a 'new' villian who has caused the Phantom a few headaches over the years. We do not know her though as Frew have not published the three previous stories featuring this character that many think is one of the best villians the Phantom has ever battled. The artwork is really beautiful and looks great in black and white. I enjoy Geroge Bess's artwork.

You can read some reviews on the Phantom Phorum and one should appear on the Chronicle Chamber Reviews page soon. Popular speaker and author Steve Farrar offers fresh insights from a surprising source: the stories of "bad kings" and "good kings" in Old Testament times. Their stories can guide our parenting and make for compelling reading. For fathers, stepfathers, and sons of all ages - as well as coaches, men's ministry leaders, and counsellors - all who desire to shape the character of the future generation of men. Formerly published as Run to the Roar. Read more at Koorong.

I was suggested this book by my Pastor, Pastor Graham. At first I did not know why he really did as this book is about men influencing and raising their sons and at the moment I do not have any. However in reading it and after the first chapter or two I started to understand and relise how this started to speak into my life about how to be a man and also a son or a disciple.

At the end of the book they use an illustration about how the kid that you raise will see you as God. You are God to the kid and you represent God. I reckon you can take this one step further and say that if you have influence over anyone whether you are an older brother or even a Pastor, you represent God. So are you an angry harsh person? If so they see God as an angry harsh God. Convicting aint it?? I myself have two younger brothers and I know I have failed representing God to them.

I enjoyed this book that much that I ended up buying my own step dad a copy in the hope that he may read it and even though he is a great father, he could improve (like all of us). I would definatly recommend it to men, fathers and Pastors alike.

A few things really stood out to me when I read the book. One of them was about mentoring through mistakes. I like everyone else has made mistakes and im sure we all have experiences were we have been helped good and bad. Another thing that got me was when they used two fathers in the old testement (King David and King Solomon) and talked about what they did which was good and which was bad and how if you do not take the time to help and build your son, he can be a looser like King Rahoboam who lost almost all of his kingdom in three days. Another big thing was about being a harsh leader who crushes instead of building. Harsh leaders will eventually loose the people that are placed under them, whether they are disciples, children, family, subjects etc.

Enough of me spilling the beans about the book though, go get it and have a read as it is worth it.

New Phantom Comic - The Moriatry Experiment

Does the name Professor Moriarty sound familar? Basically the pricing is task x time (complexity x effort) x rate = price.

Task is what it is, like whether it is one webpage or two OR a few prototypes etc.
Complexity is how complex the task is and scaled from one to three (allowing for 0.5).
Effort is how many hours it will take me. This includes time for testing etc.
Rate is the hourly rate we charge by.

At the moment I charge $30 an hour. As my skills and experience grows I will charge more as I and the market sees fit. I have seen some companies charge up to $100 an hour which includes overheads, salaries plus much more. That is not the case for me as I do not have to charge for an office or those other overheads.
